Montreal, July 27, 2026 — The "BONSECOURS, WITH LOVE" summer campaign has officially launched! This SDC Vieux-Montréal outreach initiative highlights the unique character and commercial vitality of the historic Bonsecours area. Through a range of digital content, a lineup of free activities and new outdoor summer installations, the SDC invites visitors and locals alike to extend their exploration into the eastern part of the historic district.
An iconic sector, ever-evolving
Renowned for its exceptional heritage, major cultural institutions and diverse commercial offering, the Bonsecours area occupies a strategic place within the historic district. In addition to being home to a dynamic mix of businesses, the area will benefit over the coming years from several major development projects that will contribute significantly to its economic growth and transformation.
The SDC Vieux-Montréal therefore aims to boost the appeal of the Bonsecours area and encourage visitors to continue their exploration eastward, beyond Place Jacques-Cartier. Through a combination of on-the-ground initiatives, digital content and programming, this campaign seeks to enhance the area's visibility while driving foot traffic to its streetfront businesses.
Installations that invite you to stop and stay
To create a welcoming and distinctive experience, the Bonsecours area is taking on a new visual identity this summer, featuring hanging bougainvillea spheres, colourful pennants and signage kiosks showcasing the area's commercial and cultural offerings.
In addition, until September 6, the forecourt of Marché Bonsecours finds itself transformed into an inviting Public Plaza, complete with urban furniture, giant games, a musical atmosphere and relaxation spaces. This new installation offers visitors to Old Montreal a vibrant gathering place at the heart of the Bonsecours area.
Programming that enlivens the neighbourhood
The campaign also features a summer program that showcases the sector's distinctive heritage and cultural life.
Starting August 5, Les Chroniques du Vieux takes to the streets, offering free guided tours for the first time, in collaboration with Guidatour. Inspired by the popular digital capsule series, these tours will let participants discover, in a new way, the stories and figures that have shaped the Bonsecours area.
Outdoor enthusiasts can also take advantage of the shaded pétanque courts set up along De la Commune Street, with free professional equipment rentals available at the Public Plaza on the Marché Bonsecours forecourt.
Throughout the summer, several cultural partners will also contribute to the area's programming. Exhibitions, concerts and free activities will be presented by the Marguerite Bourgeoys Historic Site and the Château Ramezay, among others, while the highly popular World Press Photo Montreal exhibition returns to Marché Bonsecours starting in late August.
A campaign that also unfolds online
Alongside on-the-ground activities, the campaign will resonate across the SDC Vieux-Montréal's digital platforms throughout the summer, through a range of dynamic content — including address books, entrepreneur profiles, and a calendar of not-to-be-missed events and activities — inviting visitors to discover, or rediscover, the full richness of this unique area.
Starting July 29, the award-winning series Les Chroniques du Vieux returns with a second edition entirely devoted to the Bonsecours area. In collaboration with Guidatour's seasoned guides, the digital capsules will showcase the anecdotes, figures and landmarks that shape the identity of this historic area. The series joins a wealth of content to be unveiled throughout the summer, aimed at inspiring visitors to explore the Bonsecours area in all its facets.
