1 July 2026 to 6 September 2026

This summer, the north forecourt of Bonsecours Market is being transformed into a brand-new public plaza, an inviting gathering space where visitors can relax, play, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of Old Montréal. Developed by the SDC Vieux-Montréal in partnership with the City of Montréal, this pilot project aims to create a vibrant community hub in the heart of the Bonsecours district.

Visitors can enjoy a comfortable lounge area with bistro-style furniture and parasols, a musical ambiance, games for all ages, and a complimentary pétanque ball lending service for the professional courts located behind Bonsecours Market. Enhanced wayfinding will also help visitors discover the area's shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.

The public plaza will be open from July 1 to September 6, Wednesday through Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. (weather permitting). An autumn program featuring new cultural activities will follow in October.

The public plaza is operated in collaboration with Maison du Père, whose team supports the project through a social reintegration initiative, including recreational programming that helps create a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

Whether you're taking a break between sightseeing stops, enjoying a game of pétanque, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of the historic district, the Bonsecours Market Public Plaza is a new summer destination not to be missed.

The Bonsecours Market Public Plaza is an initiative developed as part of the SDC Vieux-Montréal Targeted Intervention Program, designed to support the attractiveness and vitality of the Bonsecours district.
