Mission and Values

Created in 2004 through the combined efforts of a handful of visionary entrepreneurs who believed in the growth potential of the historic district, the SDC Vieux-Montréal is a sector-based commercial development corporation now comprised of a group of approximately 2,400 members (i.e., the totality of businesses established within its territory). Collectively, the members of the SDC generate a daily pool of about 40,000 workers.

History, Territory and Organizational Structure

The vast territory of the SDC Vieux-Montréal covers the area from Robert-Bourassa Boulevard in the West to Saint-Hubert Street in the East, and from De la Commune Street in the South to Saint-Antoine Street in the North. This makes it the second-largest SDC in terms of size in Quebec.

Regarding its organizational structure, the SDC Vieux-Montréal operates as a non-profit organization (NPO) and is managed by a board of directors. To ensure that the community is respected and properly represented, the members of the board come from all geographical sectors of Old Montreal. This rule also applies to the district's various commercial and business sectors.

Mission and Values

The primary mandate of the SDC is to bring together its members and create a unified business community. It is committed to working tirelessly when it comes to sharing ideas, addressing common issues, finding realistic solutions, and creating a living and working environment where good neighbourliness prevails. The more participative the SDC is, the more influential it becomes as an organization dedicated to local economic development.

Another key mandate of the SDC Vieux-Montréal is to ensure the promotion and enhancement of the historic district's offerings. Its focus is on fostering healthy relationships with the local business community (workers and companies) as well as with its residents. Finally, to generate a positive visitor experience in the district, the SDC Vieux-Montréal invests in making the area more welcoming, actively supporting attractions and social and/or cultural events that highlight the distinctive character of Old Montreal, while also reflecting its heritage and historical aspect.

All initiatives implemented by the SDC Vieux-Montréal stem from the following fundamental organizational values: authenticity, fairness, collaboration, professionalism, and heart.
