With the goal of improving the appearance and welcoming aspect of certain key Old Montreal sectors during pivotal periods of seasonal change, all while contributing to collective efforts to maintain cleanliness throughout the historic district, the SDC Vieux-Montréal will be rolling out a brand new targeted sanitation project in April, thanks to financial support from the City of Montreal: The Mid-Season Big Cleanup.
As part of this initiative, which will take place between the end of the winter season and the beginning of spring, the SDC will provide additional logistical support to complement Ville-Marie borough operations in strategic geographic sectors of the district known for their significant foot traffic, and which may also pose certain cleanliness challenges due to the presence of construction sites or other factors.
Target zones for the Mid-Season Big Cleanup project this spring:

“For this first year, we’ve targeted three specific zones and will be undertaking an awareness-raising campaign to inform Old Montreal businesses about best practices to adopt for reporting cleanliness issues, operational resources available in this respect, regulations in effect on the city’s platforms, and other relevant information,”
explains Mario Lafrance, Executive Director of the SDC Vieux-Montréal.
On the whole, the operation will contribute significantly to improving the perception of cleanliness in the historic district among visitors and locals. A renewal of the project in 2026 and 2027 is already envisioned, again thanks to the generous support of the City of Montreal.
Raising awareness and engaging the local community
And since, as the saying goes, “cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility”, if a neighbourhood business or resident group would like to contribute to the initiative through monitoring and reporting efforts, at any time of the year, they need simply contact the SDC team via the request form now available online or at [email protected]. In this way, the organization will be able to quickly inform the proper Ville-Marie borough resources on which cleanliness issues need to be targeted and prioritized. This community collaboration is an essential factor for overall success in the long term.
