3 May 2024 to 6 September 2024

Discover the North American premiere of FEELING HER WAY by artist Sonia Boyce, Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) at the Phi Foundation.

The artist immerses us in disconcerting yet playful fractals using wallpaper, photographs, sculptures, video, and sound. To complete her installation, she recorded female singers' voices who lent themselves to an improvisational exercise that transcends the piece thus created. "The work becomes a giant, multi-sensorial instrument of connection, kinship, and freedom, while also allowing each woman's unique identity to breathe and resonate. Through a willingness to take risks, what might we learn about ourselves? Might we find our own voices? Could we contribute that voice to a larger chorus? In doing so, might we find freedom?" Here's some food for thought for visitors!

Initially presented in the British Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, for which it was awarded the Golden Lion for best national participation, it is now stopping off in Montreal before moving to Toronto in the autumn. SDC Old Montreal is proud to support FEELING HER WAY as part of its Program to Support the Cultural Offerings of Old Montreal.
