Discoverthe17thWorldPressPhotoexhibition
The 17th Montreal edition of World Press Photo takes up residence at Marché Bonsecours from August 28 to October 14, 2024. Bring the best in photojournalism and world news to Old Montreal this fall!
Be one of the 65,000 people who visit this international exhibition, which each year presents current events through the lenses of photojournalists from around the world. The exhibition has been organized since 1955 by the Netherlands-based World Press Photo Foundation.
For the first time in 25 years, a Quebecer distinguished himself in this prestigious competition. "Documentary photographer Charles-Frédérick Ouellet was one of the winners announced at the unveiling of the regional winners of World Press Photo 2024 by the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam. His shot taken during the forest fires that ravaged several Quebec territories in the summer of 2023 was selected in the Single Images category, from the North and Central America region". You can see some of his images at an outdoor exhibition on rue de la Commune Ouest.
In the section presented here, you'll also find "shots [that] cover themes ranging from the war between Israel and Hamas to the climate crisis and the family. The works invite the viewer to step outside the news cycle and take an in-depth look at remarkable but little-known stories from around the world."
