Ideas for Spring Break Activities for You and Your Kids in Old Montreal

Since I am self-employed, I try to take advantage of my son’s Spring break to relax a bit. I can’t take a full week off, but I do put aside a couple of days here and there to enjoy time with the family. This year, I would really like to see what Old Montreal has to offer!I have been in love with the district ever since I was a little girl. We spent countless evenings as a family just walking around in the quarter. I loved going all year long and I still cherish Old Montreal greatly. I find it really important to show my son how the architecture of Old Montreal has shaped the district, and also expose him to such a rich historical heritage.So here are 5 activities in Old Montreal designed for kids 5 years and younger during their Spring break – here’s hoping that you will be inspired!

1. Where’s the fire? A fire- and fireman-themed guided tour:

My son really loves firetrucks. Which is perfect, because the Centre d’histoire de Montréal has organized a visit based on all things fire during Spring break! The price is quite modest, only 15$ for three kids and two adults. The tour lasts around 60 minutes, which is neither too short, nor too long – making it perfect for kids of all ages.

2. La Relâche Gourmande:

I’ve always loved bringing my son to fancy restaurants. With time, he has learned to behave properly and enjoy good food. La relâche gourmande is an event which takes place from February 29 to March 13 where many restaurants offer discounts to kids, making it a really cool activity for foodie moms and dads!

3. Bread-making workshop at the Château Ramezay:

I really enjoy teaching my son to cook in order to help develop his fine motor skills, but also to show him how easy it is to cook for oneself. This bread-making workshop invites you to get your hands to the dough in a wonderfully designed work space, and make bread from A to the Z the old fashioned way. The only thing left to do after is eat it!

4. The Pointe-à-CallièrePort Symphonies:

Going to see the boats while basking in the music of composer and trombonist Scott Thomson is really an incredible twofold experience for people of all ages! The next concert will take place Sunday March 6 at 2PM.

5. The Montreal Science Centre

I wasn’t tempted at first to visit the Science Centre with my two-and-a-half-year-old son, but my suspicions did not hold ground once we got there. Of course, he didn’t understand the many intricacies of science, but he was blown away by the dinosaur exhibit – he’s still talking to me about it, and it’s been a month! My only regret?
