ASpringWeekendonSaint-PaulStreetWest
Fresh from its recent overhaul, we can safely say that Saint-Paul West, Montreal’s original main strip, has never looked better. Spring has indeed sprung, and what better way to rediscover this storied street than a full weekend just soaking it in. Boutique hotels with genuine character, a dining lineup to put any city on the map, shops bursting at the windows with unwavering charm – everything you need for a stay to remember. To help you out, here’s a selection of very good ideas for a perfect spring weekend on Saint-Paul Street West, new and improved.
First off, where to lay your head
Epik Hotel –
Ten rooms, original stone walls, large windows right onto the street, and a team that makes you feel like the only guests in the place. Oh, and the breakfast basket – think fresh crêpes, croissants, frittata – makes getting up worth it every time.
Le Petit Hôtel –
Two-time Michelin Key winner and one of four Canadian hotels to crack Condé Nast Traveller's global top 50 in 2025. Welcome to 28 gorgeously appointed rooms, impeccable service, and Le Petit Café in the lobby, where the barista is pouring beauties on the house, any time of day.
Corner Apartments –
Serviced apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom suites, with exposed stone walls and the full backup of boutique hospitality – concierge through Hôtel Nelligan, housekeeping on request. A home away from home that actually feels like it.
Your weekend jumpstart
Le Marquis Signature Santé –
Now, to kick things off. Everything here – croissants, pain au chocolat, quiches, crêpes – is 100% gluten-free, and we guarantee you won’t be able to tell. Dairy-free options too. This bright little café has been winning people over since 2012, and let’s just say it's not hard to see why.
Buvette Pastek –
A Parisian-inspired wine bar that does weekend brunch with the same effortless style it brings to everything else. Deliciously creative riffs on brunchtime standards, great coffee, freshly squeezed juice – and bottomless mimosas if the weekend calls for it, which it probably does.
And now we shop, à la Vieux Montréal!
Féline –
A fashion-forward concept store that really delivers. With a well-assembled mix of Montréal and international designers for men and women, not to mention some outstanding service, these cats make every visit feel like a styling session, with precisely you and your look in mind.
Delano Design –
European fashion and Montreal designers share the floor here, with an in-house team ready to pull it all together. Leave it to them – you'll walk out looking like you planned it all along.
Le Petit Montréal –
Quebec-made hats, handcrafted jewellery, illustrated stationery, artisanal candles, maple syrup – the gift that says something specific, and loving, about our city and our province. This is where you show up looking for one thing, and leave with four.
Dubarry Furs –
A family-run furrier with over 35 years in Old Montreal, manufacturing most of its pieces right here in Canada. The Dubarry team knows every item in the shop, and happily brings zero pressure to the experience.
Naïf –
Simple, beautiful women's clothing made in Montréal from quality natural fabrics – the kind of timeless, well-made pieces that earn their place in the closet season after season. That’s Naïf.
Aēsop –
Set in the historic Harrison-Stephens building – at various points a boot factory, a paint warehouse, a haberdashery – the space alone is worth the visit. Inside, one of the world's great skincare lines awaits, with that signature Aēsop experience of being genuinely looked after.
Iris Galerie –
A detailed artistic photograph of your iris, produced in about 15 minutes? Now there’s a keepsake unlike anything else, not to mention a most original gift for anyone's list. No reservation required, though booking online helps on busy weekends.
When evening falls
Escondite –
After a full day hitting the cobblestones, you deserve Mexican-inspired fare done right: birria tacos, shrimp ceviche, house-crafted tequila cocktails and a 5 à 7 the neighbourhood has clearly decided is non-negotiable. Gets going early and stays that way.
Balboa –
On the Italian side of things, this Tomahawk Group pizza hotspot has been going forte since it opened last year, and deservedly so. Wood-fired Neapolitan pies made with organic sourdough, classic antipasti and playful signature drinks in a warm, stylish space built for good times.
Mignon Steak & Negroni Room –
Another mouthwatering option, Mignon does one thing with complete conviction: steak frites, perfectly. A cozy atmosphere and a 100% private-import wine list take care of the rest. When dinner winds down, the Negroni Room is right downstairs – amazing cocktails, DJs Thursday through Saturday, and all the right conditions for the evening to run longer than planned.
Admittedly, one weekend is not enough, but it’s an excellent start to rediscovering the magic of Saint-Paul Street West this spring. And then there’s summer. And fall. And winter. And…
