Pathway 3: Horizons VR

06.07.2022 – 31.07.2022

In celebration of Centre PHI’s tenth anniversary, and the PHI Foundation’s fifteenth anniversary, the three PHI entities (Centre PHI, the PHI Foundation, and Studio PHI have teamed up to offer a series of summer event pathways. They will allow you to discover contemporary and digital works of art through a set of varied and unique programming.

Pathway 3: Horizons VR will give you access to all exhibits offered by PHI. Start the pathway at Centre PHI with Horizons VR, a presentation of four award-winning virtual reality pieces. Each of these stories will plunge you into a unique world bursting with different subjects including, among others, interpersonal relationships, memory, and neurodiversity.

On the same floor, you’ll continue the pathway in Centre PHI by exploring Marco Brambilla’s immersive experience Heaven’s Gate. This work is inspired by the seven cardinal sins and is presented through extracts from cult classic movies. The famous videographer intended to show that the popular culture of today is overloaded and that we live in a society of consumption and excess.

Once your immersion in Brambilla’s digital world is over, head over to the ground floor of Centre PHI to enjoy INVERSE, the free summer exhibit. This documentary directed by Nicolas Jenkins and co-presented by Montreal Pride Festival depicts a portrait of the queer communities of New York with the participation of around forty participants.

End the pathway with the amazing Infinity Mirrored Rooms by Yayoi Kusama. This popular contemporary artist is known the world over for their perception-twisting experience giving the impression of being in an infinite space. Kusama is obsessed with the immensity of the cosmic world, and during this exhibit, you’ll be able to contemplate the place of humans within the universe.
