4 August 2023 to 8 October 2023

The Fondation PHI pour l'art contemporain presents Moridja Kitenge Banza's exhibition, Inhabiting the Imaginary.

Immerse yourself in the world of Moridja Kitenge Banza through the four floors of the Fondation PHI building. On the first two floors, you'll find two series of paintings from the Chiromancie project, which "focuses on the unequal value accorded to cartography and the divinatory art of palmistry."

On the third floor, you'll see a new installation that reflects this artist's frequent use of irony to tackle difficult subjects. Here, you can watch a video and consult documents explaining his approach. On the fourth floor, to conclude the exhibition and tie it all together, there is a sound composition created for the occasion, including one of the artist's award-winning works, Hymne à nous. "Taken as a whole, Kitenge Banza's work embodies 'politicized sensuality', as it seduces the ear and the eye, while nourishing the critical mind."

Kitenge Banza's fascinating background is reflected in her multidisciplinary practice, which includes painting, photography, video, drawing and installation. Using these different mediums, the artist "explores the histories, memories and identities of the places where he has lived, in relation to his own experiences." A unique exhibition, where you will feel a confusion between reality and fiction, not to be missed.

This exhibition is presented with the support of SDC Vieux-Montréal as part of the Programme de soutien à l'offre culturelle du Vieux-Montréal.
