Mister Cartier’s Silver Epergne

Mister Cartier’s Silver Epergne

15.05.2022 – 15.05.2022

During the Montreal History Festival, a conference will be held to present the Epergne gifted to Sir Cartier. This unique piece of silverwork made in the 19th century measures one metre tall and weighs nearly 14 kilos – pretty impressive for a centrepiece! It was given to politician Sir George-Étienne Cartier as thanks for his numerous accomplishments. But beyond the gift’s symbolism, you will also discover its emblems and the conditions of its creation, such as its restoration.

Following the présentation, you will get the chance to visit the politician’s house before the official opening of the Sir George-Étienne-Cartier National Historic Site, happening on June 18th. This activity is free, but there is a small entry cost of $4.25 to enter the site. Spots for this event are limited. To sign up, email cartier@pc.gc.ca.
