Château Ramezay is offering two free lectures this weekend as part of Montreal History Festival, each followed by a question and answer period with cookies, tea and coffee. Enjoy this unique opportunity to chat with the guest experts on their favourite subject!
Friday, May 10, 1:30 p.m.
"The astonishing survival of the seigneurial regime in Quebec since its abolition"
Did you know that until the 1970s, the legacy of these ancient practices still persisted? Find out what this means, what it says about us as a society and much more in this lecture by Benoît Grenier, author and professor in the History Department at the Sherbrooke University!
Saturday, May 11, 1:30 p.m.
"First Nations and the Rebellions of 1837-1838"
In this lecture, historian and author Gilbert Desmarais reminds us of the important and complex role played by First Nations during the Patriote rebellions, although they are "often forgotten in the history of this period, or automatically associated with the British and Loyalists".
