Old Montreal: Designing a Vibrant Neighbourhood
The summer installations of the historic district tangibly transform the experience of those who use the area. Workers, residents, and visitors alike praise the beauty, comfort, and friendliness of spaces such as Ruelle Saint-Amable, Place de la Dauversière, or the urban placottoir. Complementary to the Beautification Project, these installations are part of the same strategic vision of the SDC Vieux-Montréal, with the objective of positioning the historic district as an attractive environment that benefits the entire business community.
Espace Éphémère
At the heart of the Cité du Multimédia, Espace Éphémère combines flowerbeds, urban furniture, and a pétanque court. This installation invites visitors and local workers to enjoy moments of relaxation and conviviality during an outdoor break.
Ruelle Saint-Amable
Every summer since 2018, Ruelle Saint-Amable regains its charm with a colorful and welcoming design. Custom-made furniture and fuchsia bougainvilleas, installed from April to September, attract thousands of visitors every day.
Place de la Dauversière
Located next to Place Jacques-Cartier, Place de la Dauversière features urban furniture and flowerbeds. A true haven in the heart of the district, this space allows both passersby and workers to enjoy a restful pause between activities.
On-site Signage
To enhance the visitor experience, welcome stations and banners in the colors of Old Montreal are installed during the summer season. Positioned across the district from east to west, they guide visitors, provide clear visual landmarks, and contribute to the district’s warm welcome.
Urban Placottoir
Custom designed to reflect the charm of Old Montreal, the urban placottoir offers a friendly space to relax, chat, and meet. Installed from May to October, it provides seating and low tables that can accommodate about ten people at a time. Its floral touches harmoniously complement the other seasonal installations across the district.
Neighbourhood Vox Pop
The vox pop video below captures the enthusiasm of users for these welcoming spaces, which encourage people to extend their stay in the district. The result: increased foot traffic, stronger customer retention, and a boost to the local economy.
