ThisMother'sDay,GiveHertheGiftofSaint-PaulStreetWest
When it comes to celebrating moms far and wide, Old Montreal has always known how to do it right. This Mother's Day, a newly transformed Saint-Paul Street West is more than ready for you – from a long, lingering lunch to that simply perfect gift to a nice evening that turns into a great one. We've done the legwork, now here are a few suggestions to make it a day she (and you) won't soon forget. All on the same street.
Me time for Mom
(All addresses on Saint-Paul Street West)
Luna Yoga | 231 – Sometimes the best gift is an hour to herself. This community-rooted studio has been one of Old Montreal's quiet anchors for over two decades. Dynamic YogaFlo and Jivamukti classes sit alongside Yin sessions for stillness and release, in an atmosphere that's genuinely inclusive and unhurried. Gift cards available – she can book whenever the moment's right.
For her love of beautiful things
Ora Boutique | 45 – Bold, colourful, and full of personality. This women's fashion boutique carries vibrant prints, statement pieces, cozy knits and standout handbags, each one chosen with a sharp eye for what works. The kind of boutique where you find something you didn't know you needed, and then can't imagine leaving without it.
Boutique U&I Love / U&I + | 235 & 231 – A fixture on Saint-Paul West since 1997, U&I brings together a curated selection of European-inspired fashion – one-of-a-kind pieces, limited quantities, nothing you'll see on anyone else. Next door, U&I + is where the jewellery lives – the finishing touches that tie the whole look together. Two addresses, one happy mom.
Artur | 163 – Part of L'Original gallery, this innovative platform harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to bring art within everyone's reach. Discover, commission and create something entirely personalized – from a custom framed portrait to a piece made just for her by a local Montreal artist. The perfect gift that lasts well beyond the occasion.
Galerie Blanche | 218 – Fresh into a new chapter, Galerie Blanche presents an outstanding collection of contemporary Quebec, Canadian and international works: paintings, sculptures, figurative and abstract. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting to look, the team here makes the experience welcoming and personal.
At the table
Taverne Grecque Máti | 185 – The mezze was made for a day like this: dishes to be shared – lovingly – and eaten without a hurry in sight. This chic, minimalist Greek taverna moves from grilled octopus and ouzo-flambéed saganaki to braised lamb that's been simmering since the day before. Order generously. Take your time.
Stash Café | 200 – An institution since 1972, Old Montreal’s go-to for authentic Polish cuisine shows no signs of slowing down. Settle into the church pew seating, let the live piano do its thing, and then order the pierogi, the bigos, the kielbasa, the cabbage rolls... Whatever you have, this is the kind of cooking (and service) that feels like they’ve been expecting you for a while.
Restaurant Gandhi | 230 – Gandhi has been bringing its bright elegance and the warmth of the Indian kitchen to Saint-Paul since 2001. The tandoori specialities are a great move to make here – chicken, duck or lamb tikka, shrimp pulled hot from the clay oven – alongside fragrant biryani and a rich selection of curries. Yet another institution, yet again well earned.
Le Polisson | 171 – A seafood-forward bistro nestled inside Epik Hotel, Le Polisson has built itself a decidedly loyal following; let’s just say the moules et frites alone make it abundantly clear why. And the back courtyard terrasse is one of the neighbourhood's best-kept secrets: stone walls, a few tables, and the feeling that the city has gone quiet just for you.
Escondite | 12 – This neighbourhood hideout serving up deliciously inventive Mexican fare – think Korean steak tacos – and signature tequila-based cocktails, is without a doubt one of the most reliably lively spots on the street. They're also running a Mother's Day giveaway for a $100 gift card at the moment, so click here to find out more. ¡Salud, mamá!
Linger a little longer
Philémon Bar | 111 – When dinner winds down and no one's ready to call it a night, Philémon is the obvious next stop. Inventive cocktails, a wine list worth exploring and an all-around vibe that is 100% good time. Open until 3am… just saying, Mom.
Negroni Room | 101 – Descend into this speakeasy tucked away beneath Restaurant Mignon and let the bartenders take it from there. Expertly handled drinks including Negronis galore (the name is no accident) in a cozy, enveloping space with DJs running all night. For the mom who’s serious about her libations, and her fun.
Lovebird | 106 – Brand new on the block and already essential. This intimate cocktail and music salon set within the historic walls of the Hôtel Nelligan pairs a focused drink program with live jazz, soul and acoustic performances. Champagne and caviar service available. Smart dress and reservations recommended.
Should she want to stay
Epik Hotel | 171 – Ten beautifully appointed rooms topped by a penthouse loft with two private terraces, a gourmet breakfast basket to start the day on a delicious little note, and the aforementioned Le Polisson right downstairs. Charming, personal and perfectly placed. Go ahead and make a weekend of it – she deserves that and much, much more.
