Spring has sprung and that means Earth Day is upon us. To mark the occasion, we want to highlight some best practices inspired by local businesses that have the environment at heart. Whether through B Corp, LEED, or other certifications, these businesses are helping sustainable practices take root and blossom—positively influencing the landscape of Old Montreal.

B Corp galore

Niché - 417 Saint-Pierre Street

Like many district establishments meeting the high social/environmental standards for B Corp Certification, Niché has earned its stripes. Dedicated to responsible practices and community uplift, this event management agency doesn’t just create memorable experiences, it inspires.

Clinia - 221 De la Commune Street West, Suite 210

Providing efficient, AI-powered search software to healthcare organizations, Clinia is another B-Corp source of Old Montreal pride. Demonstrating a commitment to eco-friendly approaches, transparency and accountability, these innovators well deserve the recognition they enjoy.

Talsom - 80 Queen Street, Suite 502

“Act with impact”, says this thriving digital transformation & management consulting firm, and act with impact they do. In 2019, they became the first consulting firm to achieve B Corp Certification, confirming the dedication to responsible business they demonstrate to this day.

Leading with LEED

Louis-Charland Building - 801 Brennan Street

Old Montreal is a trove of LEED-certified gems, one of which was the first to receive the LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) distinction in Quebec. An architecture-award-winning structure, the Louis-Charland Building is a veritable beacon of sustainability and energy efficiency.

Fort de Ville-Marie Building - 350 Place Royale

Even the oldest spots in the neighbourhood (i.e., in town) carry a future-friendly stamp. Part of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, the Fort de Ville-Marie Building boasts LEED Gold certification for sustainable design and construction, while standing on the very site of the city’s foundation.

PHI Centre - 315 Saint-Paul Street West

This multifunctional arts and culture hub holds more than treats for the eyes and ears. A leader in ecoresponsible practices, from water conservation and incorporating low-emission materials to organizing green-centric events, PHI Centre is an LEED Gold winner through and through.

Haleco – 997 de la Commune Street West

In March 2025, Haleco was awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum certification for its mixed-use building in Montreal, recognizing its outstanding eco-conscious design. This innovative development combines high energy efficiency—achieved through a high-performance building envelope and a 100% electric system with no reliance on fossil fuels—with exemplary water management. It also embraces the principles of the circular economy, exemplified by a pioneering public market within the project. Haleco stands as a true model of sustainable urban development.

Mindful shopping

Artopex - 221 Saint-Jacques Street West, Suite 100

Office furniture that offers maximum quality and minimum footprint? Think Artopex. Possessing several certifications – ISO 14001GREENGUARD and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) – these folks do things really responsibly, down to how they source the wood for your desk.

Nordic Peace - 555 De la Commune Street West

This family-owned business wants “to promote a peaceful, minimalist lifestyle while making a tangible difference in preserving wildlife and protecting our planet”. As a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of annual sales to environmental non-profits, let’s just say they walk the talk.

Enlightened hospitality

Beloved specialty coffee wizards, Paquebot, are doing their part beautifully, among other things working in collaboration with the awesomely eco-wise organization, La Vague, to reduce their reliance on single-use containers and packaging. Go get your forever-use “La Tasse” cup now!
