16 June 2026 to 16 June 2027

This summer, Old Montréal welcomes “Vénérables”, an outdoor exhibition paying tribute to photojournalist and educator Jacques Nadeau, a prominent figure in Québec’s media landscape for more than four decades. Presented along Rue de la Commune Ouest, the exhibition features a selection of portraits from his book of the same name, published in 2024.

Through a moving exploration of the lives of 80 elderly individuals, including several well-known public figures, Jacques Nadeau examines themes of aging, memory, resilience, and commitment. Artists, intellectuals, builders, and community leaders reveal themselves through portraits filled with humanity, where vulnerability and inner strength coexist.

Through these timeless and deeply touching images, visitors are invited to slow down, discover the stories behind the faces, and reflect on what it means to live a long and meaningful life. The exhibition offers an inspiring encounter with remarkable life journeys while celebrating the legacy of a photographer who has left a lasting mark on Québec’s history.

Venerables is also part of a broader photographic journey highlighting Jacques Nadeau’s work throughout the historic district over the coming months. This includes an outdoor exhibition presented in collaboration with Château Ramezay on Le Royer and Saint-Claude streets, as well as the return of World Press Photo Montréal at Marché Bonsecours this fall, which will also feature and celebrate the work of this acclaimed photojournalist.

This exhibition is produced by the SDC Vieux-Montréal in collaboration with World Press Photo Montréal.
