With Regression, photographer Bénédicte Brocard offers a thoughtful exploration of time, attention, and the photographic gesture. Presented at the Alliance Française de Montréal, the exhibition marks a deliberate return to analog photography—a medium that slows down the creative process and gives each image a renewed sense of purpose.

Created over a nine-month period between France and Québec, the series brings together 24 photographs captured primarily during the blue hour, that fleeting moment between day and night when light becomes softer and more elusive. Through carefully observed landscapes and atmospheric scenes, the artist explores the relationship between perception, memory, and place.

Photographed with a 1970s Hasselblad camera, the works reveal the distinctive qualities of analog photography: nuanced textures, organic grain, and luminous depth. More than a return to a traditional technique, this approach allows Brocard to reconnect with a more instinctive and contemplative practice, where patience, uncertainty, and intention become essential parts of the creative process.

Bridging France and Québec, Regression invites visitors to slow their gaze and rediscover the beauty of fleeting moments through a series of images that are both intimate and evocative.
