21 June 2026 to 6 September 2026

Sacred Fire Productions presents MISINKOTCIKATEK – Engraved, an exhibition by Atikamekw artist Jacques Newashish celebrating the knowledge, traditions, and ancestral motifs of the Atikamekw Nation. Through a series of wood panel works and engravings, the artist explores the dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary creation.

The exhibition's title—a word coined by the artist—embodies both the theme and the medium of his work. Inspired by the land and Atikamekw traditions, his pieces blend the traditional with the contemporary, the masculine with the feminine, combining engraving, scraping, embroidery, and stencil techniques. Wood, canvas, fabric, and birch bark become the foundation of an artistic practice deeply rooted in the transmission of ancestral knowledge.

Inspired by observing Elders and the use of the mokotakan (crooked knife), the exhibition offers a rich and interconnected vision of the world while inviting visitors to discover the art and culture of the Atikamekw Nation through a contemporary lens.

Presented at the Sacred Fire Productions Cultural Space in Old Montréal, the exhibition is open to the public free of charge from June 21 to September 6, 2026.
