Jakob Kudsk Steensen: Otherworlds invites visitors to step into an immersive universe where art, ecology, and technology converge. Through virtual environments, spatial soundscapes, and video installations, Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen explores the profound transformations of our planet and the ecological realities shaping the contemporary world.

Fieldwork lies at the heart of Steensen’s practice. His projects take root in diverse locations—glaciers, experimental forests, fragile natural sites, and scientific collections—each serving as a crucial vantage point from which the artist observes ecosystems in transition. Drawing on this research, Steensen creates speculative worlds where scientific observation meets imagination, revealing often unseen narratives about climate change and its impact on our environments, memories, and perceptions.

For Otherworlds, the artist revisits his own archives and brings together six worlds developed over the past decade. Virtual reality experiences, spatialized sound environments, and immersive video installations unfold like chapters of an evolving narrative, inviting visitors to move through fragments of landscapes, sensory experiences, and future visions.

The exhibition marks Steensen’s first solo presentation in Canada and the most significant institutional showcase of his work to date. It also features the North American premiere of Psychosphere, a monumental installation originally commissioned by Cisternerne in Copenhagen.
