A new addition to the historic district: Ciné-Quartier is partnering with the Alliance Française de Montréal to present a series of monthly cinema evenings in the heart of Old Montréal. These inspiring events will give audiences the chance to discover notable contemporary films in the Alliance Française’s new cultural space at 317 Place D’Youville.
The first screening will take place on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. with the film “Nino” by Pauline Loquès, a French drama recently awarded the César for Best First Film, while actor Théodore Pellerin won the César for Most Promising Actor for his performance. The film follows Nino, a young man who must face a decisive challenge in three days. In the meantime, two tasks assigned by his doctors lead him across Paris on a personal journey where he tries to reconnect with others, and with himself. Reserve your seat now through the online ticketing platform.
The series continues on April 22 with “Amour Apocalypse” by Anne Émond, a Quebec dramedy starring Patrick Hivon, Piper Perabo, and Gilles Renaud. The story follows Adam, a hypersensitive kennel owner whose life is turned upside down when he meets Tina, a radiant woman he encounters by chance while calling the technical support line for a light therapy lamp. Between strange phenomena and emotional upheaval, an unlikely and touching love story unfolds.
Then, on May 27, the program will feature “Montréal, My Beautiful” by Xiaodan He. This drama tells the story of Feng Xia, a 53-year-old Chinese immigrant living in Montréal who has spent her life in quiet obedience to family, culture, and a marriage built on unspoken expectations. When she meets Camille, a free-spirited young Québécoise woman, a long-suppressed desire resurfaces. Under the sweltering Montréal summer, Feng Xia embarks on a deeply personal journey toward freedom and self-discovery.
More screenings will be announced soon, stay tuned!
