Sample. reimagines the cocktail bar experience by placing music at the heart of every visit. Hidden beneath a historic Old Montréal building, this new hi-fi cocktail listening bar is built around a simple idea: bringing human connection back to the centre of the experience.
Inspired by Japanese listening bars, it invites guests to slow down, put their phones away, and immerse themselves in a high-fidelity sound system, a carefully curated vinyl collection, and thoughtful hospitality designed to encourage conversation and presence. Set in a warm, candlelit space with rich earth tones, every detail has been carefully crafted to foster attentive listening and meaningful connections.
Unlike traditional bars where music serves as background ambiance, Sample. places sound front and centre. Its musical programming, curated in collaboration with Modibo Keita, whose work with the Montréal International Jazz Festival has helped shape its cultural landscape, takes guests on a journey through soul, jazz, funk, disco, and contemporary sounds, all played on vinyl.
The cocktail menu, designed like a record album, mirrors this musical evolution. Each drink captures the mood and rhythm of a song, featuring signature creations such as the Brown Sugar, with raspberry, cacao, and cardamom; By the River; Rufus; the zero-proof Soulquarians; and Julius, with notes of coconut and yellow pepper. The drinks are complemented by a selection of Nordic-inspired bites, including smørrebrød topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese, pickled eggs, or cherry tomatoes, as well as shareable dishes like beetroot hummus and muhammara.
Created by the team behind The Coldroom, El Pequeño Bar, Bar Bello, Bisou Bisou, and the Montréal Cocktail Fest, and led by Jama Joachim, Sample. offers a fresh vision of the cocktail bar where music, cocktails, and hospitality come together in perfect harmony. A must-visit destination for lovers of inventive cocktails, exceptional sound, and immersive evenings in the heart of the historic district.
