Pointe-à-Callière’s Public Market returns for its 32nd edition!

For one special weekend, Pointe-à-Callière invites you to travel back in time and immerse yourself in the heart of New France! This historical reenactment brings to life a bustling market day in 18th-century Montreal under French rule.

Set against a backdrop inspired by New France, the museum recreates the vibrant atmosphere of an authentic 18th-century market, complete with musicians, soldiers, artisans, peasants, and colourful historical figures.

On the museum’s historic site and surrounding streets, more than 30 booths will showcase local producers, artisans, and cultural organizations in a lively and immersive setting. Featured participants include La Cave à Manger, Auberge BreWskey, the Pointe-à-Callière boutique, Fromagerie La Moutonnière, Création Sydéral, and many more.

From a fur trading post and an old-time writing school to a military encampment, everything is in place to offer visitors an authentic, sensory, and family-friendly experience. Highlights include:

  • Costumed actors portraying historical figures, including Marguerite D’Youville and others from New France
  • Traditional music performances and dance demonstrations
  • Passionate artisans (blacksmiths, weavers, soap makers, etc.)
  • Local delicacies: cheeses, donuts, beverages, maple treats, honey, duck, and more
  • Family activities such as games, workshops, and participatory animations like the Château Ramezay’s little writing school

Be sure to greet the many characters you’ll meet along the way: musicians, villagers, sailors, soldiers, and more. Blending living history with festive celebration, this one-of-a-kind market transports visitors of all ages to a pivotal era in Montreal’s past. A must-see summer event in Old Montreal!

Pointe-à-Callière’s Public Market is presented with the support of the SDC Vieux-Montréal, as part of the Programme de soutien à l’offre culturelle du Vieux-Montréal.
