The winter lights return to Old Montreal

The cold season is approaching, but in Old Montreal, it is rather synonymous with enchantment and lights as the luminous decorations are back for the winter.

Starting at the beginning of November, all the way to March 2023, the whole of the historic district will shine with the thousand lights from the returning Lights Over Old Montreal program – a project aimed at setting up decorative light fixtures, thanks to the financial backing of the borough of Ville-Marie.

There are nearly twenty scintillating points of interest in all for visitors to see, animating key public spaces and main commercial thoroughfares in the neighbourhood. Some of the most notable ones include: the magnificent sparkling stars of Place d’Armes, the impressive lit structure suspended over Place Jacques-Cartier, the enchanting St-Amable Street, the majestic lit columns of Bonsecours Market, and the three Life Trees crowning Place Royale, Square des Frères-Charon, and the front of the Palais de Justice.
Walking the illuminated streets like Saint-Paul, Notre-Dame, de la Commune, Saint-Jacques, and McGill, passersby will be entranced by the magic these glowing touches bring to the neighbourhood, bringing a contemporary feeling to the historical side of Old Montreal.

These winter lights have become something of a calling card for the historic neighbourhood, fitting in wonderfully with the historical cachet we’ve come to know and love. Local visitors and tourists alike: come take your own brilliant walking trip in le Vieux this winter!
